DHS Announces Family Reunification Parole Processes for Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently introduced new Family Reunification Parole (FRP) procedures for Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Under these procedures, certain nationals who are beneficiaries of an approved Form I-130 and meet specific criteria can be considered for parole. To be eligible, the beneficiary must be outside the United States, have not yet received an immigrant visa, and must pass screening/vetting and medical requirements.

The FRP procedures begin with the Department of State (DOS) issuing an invitation to the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident family member who filed the Form I-130 on behalf of the beneficiary. The petitioner can then initiate the process and request that the beneficiary and eligible family members be considered for advance travel authorization and parole. Please note that the new procedures allow for parole only on a discretionary, case-by-case, and temporary basis. The beneficiary must demonstrate urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit, as well as a favorable exercise of discretion.
